Abandoned

Artist Statement

Final Unedited

The idea of abandoning someone when they are vulnerable, hurt, or sad is something that seems unthinkable, but occurs too often. People tend to run the other way when something serious happens because they fear confrontation. In my image, I wanted to capture and example of people being given stress and running the other way. One example that came to mind was a hit and run car accident.

The only part of the person that is seen is the hand and the hand is almost reaching out. It represents the person seeking help or trying to reach for anyone who was there. People who commit hit and runs leave someone hurt or sad alone to deal with themselves which is hard, especially if you are seriously injured.

If I had the opportunity to take this photography again, I would make the blood more realistic. I also would make the had more noticeable and maybe show more of the body. But only showing the hand reaching out adds mystery which goes along the theme of an abandoned car accident.
