Mood & Color

When we think of colors, a lot of the time a mood is felt with that color. For example, when you hear the color yellow, what comes to mind? The sunshine? Summer? Do you feel warmth and happiness? What comes to mind differs from person to person, but the general feelings are pretty consistent.
The color red is one that usually is associated with the feeling of anger. We immediately think of someone’s face that is red with steam coming out of their ears. But I also think of love. Hearts, roses and Valentines Day have red all over them and some even say that red is the color of love. So instead of choosing one emotion (love or anger), I decided to mix them.
In my picture, the boy character is wearing a blue shirt because blue is often associated with sadness. The boy in this relationship feels unhappy because the girl lacks expression of emotion. This lack of emotion is expressed through the girl’s facial expressions and her neutral clothing. The main focus of this image is the red roses. The red color is brightened to attract attention because they represent anger and frustration from the guy. But they also represent love because even though hardships occur in relationships, the love still lasts.
I debated leaving the colors of the background more on the blue side but turning the red settings up helped convey the warmth of a healthy relationship. This shows the contrast between other relationships and their relationship. Also, I debated blurring out everything besides the roses. But I felt that blurring everything would lessen the effect of the picture. For example, the girl’s blank expression would be lost in the blur. The different colors in this image help bring it together and convey various moods to the viewer.
