We hear the word “happiness” and instantly think of laughter and smiles because being happy means you are having a good time and enjoying yourself. But when we are unhappy have you ever thought about why?

Personally, I know overthinking causes me to be unhappy. Situations arise in which there could be multiple interpretations or explanations. By constantly thinking about it I make up insane stories. But these are always in my head and the majority of the time they are not even close to what the reality is.

For this image, I first took a portrait of a person with a blank expression because thinking is usually not done with a smile on your face. Then I created a word cloud that had all words associated with thinking too much and anxiety. Many people who think about everything are anxious that some unlikely or random outcome will occur and ruin everything. By using Photoshop, I was able to embed the word cloud onto the girl’s face, making them a part of her. The words covering her entire face represents how unnecessary thoughts cloud judgment and make us chose wrong or lose a chance at happiness.

I overthink everything no matter how simple or complex the situation is. And although I try to control it, overthinking is a part of who I am. I have accepted that and accepted the fact that sometimes my overthinking makes me sad or feel lonely. It ruins my mood and makes me want to be alone. But people are always around to remind me that what I am thinking is not the truth and they help bring the happiness back out in me.
 

I believe the character’s facial expression helps sell this idea. Also, the dark hair blending in with the dark background creates an illusion and is appealing to viewers.
