Power

Humans have the tendency to crave power and if they are given it, they cling to it. We as people do not like giving up control. It is especially difficult for humans to give someone control over their emotions. One cause of this could be prior experiences. People who have been hurt in the past may not want to open themselves back up. Also if people have no one they can trust then it would be hard to share emotions.

Sometimes, it is easier to show your emotions to animals instead of humans. Puppy therapy is the idea that a dog can cheer people up or calm them down, but it involves the idea of handing over power. Humans have to let their guard down to allow these animals to take over their emotions. But once they do it, the results are amazing.

I wanted to photograph an example of a person giving up the control of their emotions. The teenage character is probably filled with stress from school and various hormones that cause her to be emotional. But she is opening herself up and allowing the tiny dog to cheer her up. It is amazing to see the power that such a small organism like a puppy can have on a whole human.

If I could re-shoot this photograph, I would try to get it more in focus than it is right now. You can tell that the dog or character cannot stay still, but I fell that somewhat adds to the photograph because it shows their excitement to be in each others company.
